<![CDATA[Int. to Sr. Full Stack Developer (Java)]]> gdR (Grossman Dorland Recruiting) is recruiting multiple Int. to Sr. Full Stack Developer (Java) positions for a global leader building a new Toronto tech innovation lab. While they’re large tech company, this office is highly entrepreneurial and very much a startup environment. This is a great environment to build products with serious impact, since you’ll be creating platforms for millions of customers backed by a large budget and brand.

Company Overview:
- Global tech leader building new Toronto product development office focused on innovation. Big budget, brand and commitment to improving user experience for their customers.
- While company’s Canadian office has over 1000 employees, their tech product development team in Toronto is still small with a plan to keep it an agile startup environment even as it grows. Think of it as a startup but with the support of a large company behind you.
- Currently 40 employees in the innovation group with a plan to double this in 2016. Team includes full-stack developers, devops engineers, test engineers, product designers, product managers, and more.
- Modern process environment that uses agile, TDD, CI, full automation, and paired programming where it makes sense.
- Stack includes Java, Angular, Hadoop, Cucumber (automation), RESTful APIs, Amazon Cloud, etc. Since their focus is innovation and they’re developing an array of new applications they’re open to working with whichever languages and tools get the job done best.
- Easily accessible by TTC. On Yonge line.

Int. to Sr. Full Stack Developer (Java) Role Overview:
- Permanent, senior level opportunity.
- Company’s focus is growing the overall capacity of their team, so they’re looking for strong software developers who want to build some awesome products and be big contributors to this high-performing team.
- Contribute to architecture and development across the stack, including using Java. You don’t need to be a full-stack developer currently, but you must be a strong engineer open to learning and expanding your tool belt.
- Platforms you’ll be creating span the business (marketing, loyalty, customer service, big data/analytics, self-service, etc.) and include customer-facing web/mobile apps and internally used applications that support customers, analytics, etc.
- Collaborate with the US head office technology teams, which include high profile developers and designers from some of the world’s top tech companies.

Int. to Sr. Full Stack Developer (Java) Role Requirements:
- Requires 8+ years software development experience using Java or another language (Scala, Ruby, Python, etc.). If you don’t have experience with Java you must be open to learning it.
- You must be a strong engineer open to expanding your tool belt and being a big contributor, since you’ll be working on a full-stack team and be expected to contribute across the stack eventually.
- You must be comfortable in a truly agile environment with minimal direction. Development works in smaller, self-forming teams that determine their own process and priorities. You won’t be told what to do.
-The following experience is a big bonus but not required: building RESTful web services, experience with MVC, experience programming with JavaScript.
- Open source community contributions (e.g., GitHub) or other peer-acknowledged contributions are a nice to have. Show us what you’ve got :)

Grossman Dorland Recruiting (gdR) has been growing Canada’s tech ecosystem for 10 years. We match top talent and executives with leading startups, tech companies and innovation labs, and grow leadership capacity through individual and organizational coaching. Our goal is to advise tech talent and organizations throughout their entire growth journey.

gdR - Director of Engineering (Ruby on Rails)

gdR is recruiting a Director of Engineering (RoR) to join a leading fintech startup that is set to disrupt a massive industry globally. This is a unique opportunity to join a company with tremendous funding at an early stage that's targeting a huge global industry as a first mover.

Company overview:

 • Founded in 2015. Product is in beta currently, representing an opportunity to join early on and influence new technology introduction and build and scale the platform.

 • 10+ person team currently, with plans to grow steadily as they are adding people across a variety of groups in the company.

 • Very well funded company with one of the largest funding rounds for their company size that Canada has seen previously.

 • Experienced leadership team that has lived and breathed their industry, thereby having a keen understanding of the industry problem that they're solving.

 • Located in downtown Toronto in the heart of the tech district.

Position overview:

 • Software developer position, which will focus primarily on the backend & APIs, and will also require some frontend JS development. Given the person will be joining the team as one of the first few developers, they require someone that's comfortable & capble of getting their hands dirty wherever necessary (database, APIs, frontend, devops, etc.).

 • Ruby on Rails experience is a bonus, but not required. Of course, candidates need to be interested in and capable of quickly picking up RoR. A background in Python, Java, .NET, etc are all desirable as long as the person has strong development fundamentals.

 • Their beta product has been developed using Ruby on Rails and is deployed into AWS, using a range of AWS services (ELB, RDS, etc.). As the platform evolves, there will be an ongoing need to continue to introduce new technologies & services to enable scalability and performance. There's certainly an appetite to use the right tech for the job - this isn't a die-hard RoR environment.

 • Given there's multiple position, they're flexible with how much experience candidates have. There are openings from intermediate to senior positions. They are able to pay market salaries and offer solid equity to make this an attractive proposition.

Apply today for the Director of Engineering (RoR) role or contact Brandon Shim-Ping (Director, Talent), at brandon AT grossmandorland DOT com to learn more.
